HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – Tourism officials in Hattiesburg are busy these days, recruiting new meetings and in-person business events for the Hub City.
Visit Hattiesburg staff say millions of dollars in local revenue from in-person events have been lost during the pandemic.
But now they say interest is growing again in face-to-face gatherings, and Visit Hattiesburg is offering incentives for organizations that might want to plan their next conference or convention in the central city.
“We are working very carefully with all of our event venues here in Hattiesburg, from the Lake Terrace Convention Center to the University of Southern Mississippi, to our municipal facilities and many of our private facilities, to provide an incentive,” said Marlo Dorsey, executive director of Visit Hattiesburg.
“By May 31, if you have a site visit here in Hattiesburg and we can show you all the good things we need to do to get together safely, we’ll give you a discount on your room rental. or your meeting space, then we are really excited to present and deploy it.
Visit Hattiesburg also recognized Thursday as World Meetings Industry Day. It is an initiative of the US Travel Association.
It celebrates the positive impact of business meetings, trade shows and conventions on local economies.
