If you’re starting to feel the bite, this year’s Memorial Day sales (opens in a new tab) could be the perfect time to do some good business. It’s not just one of the biggest sales events of the year, but one that has quickly expanded to cover a huge number of categories.

While Memorial Day sales have traditionally been synonymous with jaw-dropping summer deals on cheap grills and outdoor essentials, they cover so much more than that. It’s arguably the biggest sales event of the year outside of Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day and it’s especially good for cheap tech.

We’ve covered it for many years here at TechRadar, so believe us when we say you might be surprised at how big the sale is. It’s a great time to grab a bargain and that’s doubly important this year as everyone, including us, is feeling the pressure of the rising cost of living.

So here’s a quick look at a few areas we think are especially worth watching during Memorial Day sales this year – and some of them may be surprising.

1. Cheap TVs

TVs might not be the first thing you think of when Memorial Day sales come to mind, but Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon to like a sale of cheap 4K TVs – especially during major retail events like Black Friday, Amazon Prime Day and, yes, even Memorial Day.

TV sales tend to be so good during these events that we strongly recommend that you don’t upgrade your old TV until the next big retail event – and now it’s Memorial Day. While you don’t usually need to wait rigidly until the day to get the biggest deal, the best TV deals (opens in a new tab) tend to cluster around these events.

For example, we’re already seeing great TV sales for Memorial Day. (opens in a new tab) from Amazon this week, the best of which is a $500 price cut on this 65-inch set from Toshiba:

At half price, it’s very hard to argue with the deal above if you’re looking for a decently sized mid-range screen. For the money, this is an extremely feature-rich display from a well-known brand, and we think one of the best TV deals in this price bracket since Black Friday.

Another fantastic choice is the current price of the LG C1 OLED on Amazon. If you’re on a tight budget, you’ll probably want to skip this one, but it’s worth considering if you have a bit more cash to spend. Not only is it one of the best TVs you can buy right now, it’s a favorite here at TechRadar.

This price on the LG C1 on Amazon is the cheapest yet and is a real bargain. The discount tops that offered by Amazon on Black Friday, easily making it one of the best premium TV deals of the year so far.

Big sales events like Memorial Day are the perfect time to upgrade your phone. Not only do major carriers like AT&T and Verizon tend to offer their best upgrade and trade-in deals during these events, but you’ll also often find unlocked devices at their lowest prices ever.

For example, if you head over to amazon (opens in a new tab) now you’ll find all the latest Samsung Galaxy S22 flagships for just $25 more than its all-time cheapest price. It’s not uncommon to find price cuts on Android flagships, but this is one of the best discounts we’ve seen on this model – and one of the very first, in fact.

Verizon is also offering great pre-Memorial Day deals. Besides the usual trade-in discounts of up to $800 on the iPhone 13, you’ll also find the new iPhone SE 2022 offered for free with a new line on an unlimited data plan.

Although a line on one of these plans is expensive ($80 per month), not being tied to an exchange makes this deal one of Big Red’s most flexible offerings. Definitely worth checking out if you want to save money in the long run on your next mobile device.
